    Meet the Coaches.

The team behind every athlete and adult at FYF, with over 40 years of combined coaching experience.

    One team, one standard

    The People Behind the Program

Our coaches hold degrees in kinesiology and athletic training, carry nationally recognized certifications, and bring collegiate sport experience to the floor. The same team coaches every program, from a 7-year-old's first session to an adult's return to training, and several coaches bring backgrounds in rehab and therapy work, so training meets you wherever your body is at.

    Our coaching staff

Coach Ben, founder of Face Your Fears Athletics, in the Valencia gym
    Founder · Head Coach

    Coach Ben

B.S. Kinesiology · ACE CPT · 21+ years coaching · 14+ years in the SCV

If your athlete needs to jump higher, run faster, or come back stronger, Ben is who you want building the plan. The founder of FYF and an expert in velocity-based training, he's helped athletes add inches to their verticals, drop their 40 times, earn college scholarships, and return to sport after ACL and shoulder injuries. With more than 21 years of coaching, the last 14+ right here in the Santa Clarita Valley, he's developed every level of athlete, from a 7-year-old's first session through college and the professional ranks, and been voted Ultimate Trainer multiple years running.

A multi-sport athlete growing up in baseball, football, and swimming, Ben still lives what he coaches, testing himself in off-road triathlons, Ironman races, obstacle course races, and HYROX. Your athlete gets a coach who's still in the arena.

Coach Chris, youth athlete and speed coach at Face Your Fears Athletics
    Youth Athlete Coach

    Coach Chris

B.S. Kinesiology, Exercise Science (CSUN) · Certified Personal Trainer · Collegiate Track & Field Experience

If your athlete wants to get faster, Chris speaks their language. With collegiate track and field experience in the 400m and javelin, he coaches speed from the inside out. He got his start running sprint workouts for the Hart High School track team, and today he's one of the lead coaches of our youth athlete program, bringing a sprinter's eye to every session on our turf. At CSUN, he studied the exact science we use on the floor, conducting force-and-velocity research in the biomechanics lab.

Four years working alongside physical therapists taught Chris to coach safe, clean movement for every body and every ability. And for a measure of who he is beyond the gym: every holiday season he runs a toy drive for Children's Hospital Los Angeles that's grown bigger every year. That's the kind of person coaching your kid.

Coach Frank, youth and adult coach at Face Your Fears Athletics
    Youth & Adult Coach

    Coach Frank

NASM-CPT · Corrective Exercise Specialist · Varsity Football Head Coach

If your athlete responds to a coach with real sideline presence, that's Frank. A varsity high school football coach since 2013, serving as head coach, offensive and defensive coordinator, and weight room coordinator, he's led sessions of 40+ athletes at a time, adapting every rep for safety and skill level. He knows how to command a room, communicate a plan, and get young athletes to buy in, and he brings that same presence to every session at FYF.

Frank is a NASM-certified trainer with a specialization in corrective exercise, and years of experience coaching everyone from high-intensity group classes to adults training around age or physical limitations, so he can dial training up or down for any body in the room. Structure, sportsmanship, and standards travel with him.

Coach Slade, youth and adult coach at Face Your Fears Athletics
    Youth & Adult Coach

    Coach Slade

B.S. Kinesiology · ACE Youth Fitness Specialist · Credentialed PE Teacher

If you want a coach who's walked the same road as your athlete, that's Slade. He started as a member of FYF and evolved into a coach, so he knows what it feels like to begin from scratch and build up. A credentialed physical education teacher at a local high school and an ACE Youth Fitness Specialist, Slade coaches kids the way you'd want a teacher to: patient, encouraging, and focused on real progress.

A kinesiology graduate and a true multi-sport athlete, Slade has done a bit of everything, from competitive ice hockey and collegiate lacrosse to triathlons and ultra-endurance racing, and he's coached high school lacrosse along the way. That range means he meets any athlete or adult where they are and pushes them to keep achieving more.

Dixon, the official gym dog at Face Your Fears Athletics
    Official Gym Dog

    Dixon

Chief Welcoming Officer · Professional Motivator via Head Pats & Tail Wags · Certified Good Boy

Don't let the looks fool you. Dixon puts in work and then some, logging at least 20 miles a week on the road and moonlighting at the gym as our official welcoming party. He can sometimes be pretty ruff on our members, but like they say: it's a dog-eat, dog-sleep, dog-play world, and we're just living in his. He's not a day-to-day presence around the gym, so keep an eye out for his special guest appearances. When Dixon shows up, it's a good day.
